چکیده

Abstract Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders. In DSM-IV, diagnostic criteria autism consisted three domains: impairment in social interaction, communication deficits, and stereotypic behavior, while DSM-5 they were condensed into two deficits restricted patterns behavior to which sensory processing (SPD) added, manifested by hypo- or hyper-reactivity stimuli uncommon interests aspects surrounding environment. The purpose this study determine relation between SPD symptom triad ASD namely behavior. To our knowledge, issue was not studied before Egyptian literature. Results There a significant negative correlation (assessed short profile: SSP) ASD. As regards ADI-R (A), there with SSP total scores all subscales except for low energy/weak visual/auditory sensitivity, whereas under-responsive/seeks sensation held highest ( p ˂ 0.008). (B), auditory filtering 0.008), as (C), sensitivity taste/smell 0.001). high severity autistic symptoms CARS) scores, 0.001) energy/weak, (not highly significant) 0.05). Finally, percentage parental consanguinity among participants (80%). Conclusions negatively affected highlights importance integration therapy (SIT) major core treatment alongside other modalities. Early screening mandatory families consanguinity.

Sensory reactivity, empathizing and systemizing in autism spectrum conditions and sensory processing disorder

Although the DSM-5 added sensory symptoms as a criterion for ASC, there is a group of children who display sensory symptoms but do not have ASC; children with sensory processing disorder (SPD). To be able to differentiate these two disorders, our aim was to evaluate whether children with ASC show more sensory symptomatology and/or different cognitive styles in empathy and systemizing compared t...

Postural Control Deficits in Autism Spectrum Disorder: The Role of Sensory Integration.

We investigated the nature of sensory integration deficits in postural control of young adults with ASD. Postural control was assessed in a fixed environment, and in three environments in which sensory information about body sway from visual, proprioceptive or both channels was inaccurate. Furthermore, two levels of inaccurate information were used within each channel (gain 1 and 1.6). ASD part...

Toward an Interdisciplinary Understanding of Sensory Dysfunction in Autism Spectrum Disorder: An Integration of the Neural and Symptom Literatures

Sensory processing differences have long been associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and they have recently been added to the diagnostic criteria for the disorder. The focus on sensory processing in ASD research has increased substantially in the last decade. This research has been approached from two different perspectives: the first focuses on characterizing the symptoms that manifes...
